The Fabulist Review

By Ezekiel McAdams

Coming from local musician, Jeffrey Popeiel of Minor Matter, The Fabulist is one of three Kids shows this season. The Fabulist is a rendition of Aesop's Fables performed in a folksy quirky irreverent fashion.

Performed with  a twist, Popiel[ brings a cavalcade of  quirk including shadow puppets and animal masks that go along with each of the fables.

Popiel has a very striking stage presence as his cadence and demeanor shifts with each song he sings. Popiel with affect different voices to suit not only the animal but the style of the fable itself.

Popiel's stage presence could only be defined as adorkable as there were a few glitches with the production that I saw but he happily rebounded to the next bit.

Special mention to the interaction between the children and Popiel that I saw during my performance at several[ times the children tried to correct Popiel or tell him what the animal really is and Popiel dryly remarks "No, I'm pretty sure the Sun is older the five because I know I'm older then five"

The Fabulist is a lively, folksy 40 mins blanketed with quirkiness and animals that will leave you with a smile whether you are a kid or an adult.

The Fabulist is at the Victoria School Gym
