Charlatan Review

By Ezekiel McAdams

It's impossible to accurately review a show like Charlatan because  every  performance from Vancouver magician, Travis Bernhardt is different .

In fact, the best way to get  an accurate sampling is to probably see this show three times, at the beginning, middle and end of its run because the audience will make or break each performance.

Bernhardt starts the  show  by explaining  the format to the audience. He will be trying ascertain questions and feelings from the audience, whether Bernahrdt is psychic or not is besides the point. The show and specifically his presence anchors the entire hour and is very entertaining.  Bernhardt has the incredible skill to go with the flow when a bit doesn't work. For instance, several times during my performance he kept trying to engage with a "Roberto" to no avail but Berhardt would treat it like stand up, make a joke and move on to the next bit effortlessly.

If you're looking for magic, the mysterious or a fun, engaging hour look no further than  Charlatan. Bernhardt is worth the price of admission.

Charlatan can be seen at the Broadway Theatre.
