Wildwood Fire Review

By Ezekiel McAdams

Wildwood Fire comes from Wildwood Flower Productions in Rosebud, Alberta. The play is a love letter to country music as it takes you behind the scenes of the drama between Carter family matriarch Maybelle and daughter June Cater who was married to the Man in Black himself, Johnny Cash.

Performed by actors, Lauren De Graaf and Alixandra Cowman, the musical drama is intense, poignant and touching all at once intermixed with songs by the Carter family and banter between De Graaf  and Cowman's characters.

De Graaf and Cowman are strong performers are able to go to dark places that  hold you at a standstill as the family drama unravels between your eyes.

De Graaf plays the motherly Maybelle with perfection while Cowman is great at being carefree yet erratic and emotional while trying to hold it together on stage.

The singing is strong and grounds the musical hour as it is able to weave from a set list to family bickering without flinching.

De Graaf and Cowman hold the show captive with their performances and while the 60 minute production drags slightly in parts, it's never boring.

If you are a fan of Johnny Cash and the Carter family or like strong performances and a good country soundtrack, don't miss Wildwood Fire.
